ALL Roosevelt Island residents (US citizens and citizens of other nations) are eligible to vote for RIRA officers and representatives. Elections are held at PS/IS 217 and Octagon residents vote in their building. Learn about the candidates here. Make your voice heard by electing a representative to our community government.

Time to elect representatives to the Roosevelt island Residents Association. If you have ideas about life on our Island, step up and join about 40 others in advocating for activities, services and community spirit. 

You will attend meetings for three hours per month to enrich the lives of our neighbors and community. Anyone who is at least 18 years old may serve, regardless of citizenship or nationality.

RIRA will hold its next election for representatives on Tuesday, November 8th, and we invite you to be part of this organization. If you are interested in making a difference on Roosevelt Island, please contact Adib Mansour, Chair of the Election Nomination Committee at riradib@earthlink.net to discuss RIRA and how you might participate as an elected representative.

Residents Recount 'Tales of the Tram' Tuesday, 5/17 at 1:00 pm

Roosevelt Island residents and distinguished guests gather to mark the 40th anniversary  of the maiden voyage of the Roosevelt Island aerial tram on Tuesday, May 17 at 1:00 pm at Tram Plaza. Join us for a celebration featuring remarks by those who were instrumental in the life of the tram, plus a performance by the PS/IS 217 Band. Children of the island will share model tram cabs they have decorated. Bring your stories of unusual events (marriage proposals and weddings), celebrity sightings (Harrison Ford) and exotic guests (deer). A cake, in the form of the tram, will be served. FREE.

All Roosevelt Island residents are invited to complete a survey (www.riraonline.com/survey) regarding their views of the issues the community is facing. The survey takes less than three minutes to complete. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, May 20, 2016.

RIRA will tally the responses and use them to set priorities among the issues presented.

Family fun for Roosevelt Islanders. The Annual Easter Egg Hunt is for children ages Toddler to 8 years old and meets in Manhattan Park. Food and books for all. Pre-Register at http://rira-eeh.weebly.com/. Fee is $5 per child and maximum $20 per family. Children will hunt for eggs on the Manhattan Park lawn and greet the Bunny. Make a bonnet and play games. Prizes (stuffed animals, English and non-English language books) will be awarded. Deadline for Pre-registration is Thursday, March 24.

Entertainment includes a performance by the Main Street Theatre cast of Annie. Read-aloud with Girl Scouts and volunteers. In case of rain, the activities will be moved to 8 River Road. For more information, please contact Lynne Strong Shinozaki at lynnestrong@hotmail.com.

11:00 am - 1:00 pm Cherry Blossom Walk, led by the Roosevelt Island Historical Society, beginning at RIHS Visitor Center Kiosk. Suggested donation $10.00.
